Sad this is not surprising - the women of Florida are once again under attack by right-wing nutjobs!  → blogs.orlandosentinel.com

I am more than capable of making decisions about my body and my health.

Rep. Van Zant - you are unfit to serve the people of Florida!

Lifehacker: What's the Easiest Way to Share Large Files and Media with Friends? Opera Unite  → lifehacker.com

We just set it up for our recording studio and it’s working flawlessly.

A bit of a pain to have Opera running all the time, but we’re helped by the fact that our publishing masters are on their own Mac Mini, so Opera in the background there isn’t a huge hassle.

Agreed, it’s pretty damn slick.

Hmm…interesting. I don’t relish the idea of installing yet another browser, but I certainly like the idea of managing my downloads in, perhaps, a slicker format than Dropbox.

what’s nice is that you’re not tied to the 2GB storage limit that comes with Dropbox (the free version at least).

White House revamps communications strategy - washingtonpost.com → washingtonpost.com

shaneguiter:

White House officials are retooling the administration’s communications strategy to produce faster responses to political adversaries, a more disciplined focus on President Obama’s call for “change” in Washington and an increasingly selective use of the president’s time.

The messaging adjustments are the result of an end-of-the-year analysis in which White House advisers said the president’s communications team had not taken the initiative often enough and had allowed drawn-out debates in Congress, and relentless criticism by Republicans, to drown out his message.

Secret Joint Raid Captures Taliban’s Top Commander → nytimes.com

soupsoup:

The Taliban’s top military commander was captured several days ago in Karachi, Pakistan, in a secret joint operation by Pakistani and American intelligence forces, according to American government officials.

The commander, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, is an Afghan described by American officials as the most significant Taliban figure to be detained since the American-led war in Afghanistan started more than eight years ago. He ranks second in influence only to Mullah Muhammad Omar, the Taliban’s founder, and was a close associate of Osama bin Laden before the Sept. 11 attacks.

“they [democrats] are so impotent… yeah so now they have 59 [senators instead of 60] they should be able to do things with 51. They couldn’t sell health care. This is something that the American people wanted. This something that would save lives, save money and they couldn’t sell that. They couldn’t sell a cub scout to a pedophile this party.” —Bill Maher (via brooklynmutt)
